The criticism of the gospel history, inasmuch as it immediately concerns the life of the Founder of Christianity, and brings us in contact with so many other momentous questions, will long remain the most important object of the critical labours of our time. The inquiry which ranks next to it in point of interest is concerned with the question how Christianity, which was at one
